How RON Works
The signer and notary connect through an approved RON platform. The notary verifies the signer’s identity (typically with credential analysis and knowledge-based authentication), witnesses the e-signature live, and applies an electronic notarial seal. The session is recorded and the recording retained per state requirements — usually for several years.
Where RON Is Allowed
Most states now have a permanent RON statute on the books, a smaller number allow it only temporarily or under specific conditions, and a few still require in-person notarization for all or most document types.
